500+ Volunteers Clean Up Ocean Beach on Sunday -- Official Cleaning Crews Were MIA

We're doing a great job as a surf community responding to the oil spill   Although the official crews weren't quite on it Sunday as above, they're quite dialed in now.

Please set time aside and continue to take part, take action, and help our beaches in their time of need.  We can't rely on government agencies to do all the work.

If you want to really help, please spread the word and join us Wednesday night for volunteer training.  Get your company involved.

DO NOT SURF YET.  We'll need help with water testing, reporting and daily oil residue monitoring. Let's get our surf shops and local Surfrider chapters more involved.

OCEAN BEACH CLEANUP & STATUS - TUES 11/13

DO NOT GO OUT & SURF UNTIL WATER IS TESTED.   Large swell is in the water as well.

Kathleen Egan (Kill the Spill) just walked down to the beach and reports that  the oil is way down. The tide is coming up so it could get worse later but right now, at Noriega, the oil spots are sporadic. Others said that Taraval and Sloat is down too -- much of the oil is very thin.

She also worked with City folks who picked up about 50 hair mats to take them down to the water treatment plant for today's volunteer efforts. They said that they had a great showing yesterday and did a lot of clean up.

Zuna Surf would like to see folks posting regular reports for your block of Ocean Beach or other popular beaches if attention is needed.  The official agencies have helicopters.

o  Stay tuned for a new technique from Matter of Trust to get thin oil collected, plus Myco-Remediation -- a green way to turn all the the oil residue into natural compost.

OCEAN BEACH CLEANUP TODAY (Tuesday) at VFW's

The official clean-up group has been at OB today at VFW's (near Beach Chalet). They have a very organized set up area, ATVs, equipment, refreshments, and everything!

You must be a certified volunteer to join.  They are checking badges.   More beach cleanups TBA from Kill the Spill, so get certified tomorrow.

BOLINAS STATUS

Per surfer Natalie Pepper, much washed up yesterday. Today, some of it is very thin and hard to pick up.

Contact People’s Store for more info or you can contact her (415.302.7712) to help out.

Or post on the Bolinas area at our oil blog at zunasurf.wordpress.com.

o Stay tuned for a new technique from Matter of Trust to get thin oil collected....
